With over
twenty years in the writing and over 400 recipes contained within,
Froggy Bottom is an unequaled
compilation of Louisiana cuisine.
Two former
Woodlawn High School (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) Home Economics teachers,
Mrs. Faye Brydels and Mrs. Donna Jenkins, have authored Froggy
Bottom from their many years of teaching together.
The authors
say they often talked of writing a cookbook when they worked together
at Woodlawn from 1974-1983. However, it was another 11 years before
they actually found the time to do so.
The hundreds
of recipes span the tastes of Louisiana from the hills to the
southern bayous. Froggy Bottom
is divided into 14 chapters ranging from appetizers to desserts.
Special sections include party menus and ideas, table settings,
facts from the chef, and a very special Children's Corner. And,
of course, a wide variety of the increasingly popular Cajun cuisine
is contained in the 269-page book.
The name?
Froggy Bottom is an area
in a small town in north Louisiana and it brings to mind the night
sounds of a south Louisiana swamp. This name seems fitting and
proper for a diverse collection of recipes.
According
to the Cookbook Collector Magazine, "Savor the flavors of
Louisiana - from north to south. (The authors) packed it with
useful information - and a Party section that alone is worth the
small price of the book. Don't miss this one! I love it."
